A very common virus, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infects about half of young women and can cause cervical cancer years or decades later. About a quarter million women die from cervical cancer each year, a number that could quadruple to a million deaths annually by 2050.
Research has produced effective vaccines against HPV, which could in turn reduce deaths from cervical cancer. Look for these vaccines to be available very soon.
But also look at the objections to the vaccines by the "Christian" Family Research Council (Dr. Dobson's political lobbyists). The FRC spokeperson, Bridget Maher, objects to the vaccines. "Giving the HPV vaccine to young women could be potentially harmful, because they may see it as a licence to engage in premarital sex. "
Using the possibility of behavior you don't approve to justify death sentences for hundreds of thousands of women doesn't strike me as consistent with the "culture of life" mantra these frothing lunatics repeat ad nauseum. Or is it that these "love thy neighbor" folks feel a painful death by preventable disease is God's punishment for immoral behavior?
In either case, where did they get the purified hubris to make these choices for the rest of us?
