I think pool should be considered a sport. Did you know that pueblo has one of the largest BCA pool leagues in the country over 52 teams will be competing every year in pueblo and the winners never get mentioned in the Chieftain

I'd have to disagree with it being a sport Feedbox even though I have watched thousands of hours of the game. I mostly watch tournaments and gambling up here in the Denver Metro. I enjoy watching gambling the best where the higher skilled shooter gives up some weight to the less skilled shooter. Tournament comes in second and overall are the most skilled with many of the shooters being AA, AAA, low pro's like Tony Piazza & Cheuy Rivera and sometimes they even let Colorado's best 9-ball shooter play with that being Danny Medina who grew up around the Brighton area. The little bit I have watched BCA leagues I haven't cared for because it is more of a party atmosphere with shooters drinking to much for my taste but that is the main reason that leagues are mostly ran in bars instead of pool halls like tournaments and gambling.
I have seen Sam Cordova and a couple of other Pueblo shooters play in a few bar-box 9-ball tournaments that gave the Denver and out of state shooters all they can handle so I know my hometown is still strong in producing some of the states best shooters.
We have a paper called the 'cue times' in Denver that gives all the results that are turned in and I believe if you BCA shooters told your league president to turn in the results for your league, the Chieftain would post the results for a slight fee but your dues would go up.
BTW/ I got to see Shane Van Boening the winner of the USA 9-ball championship($50,000) play in a tournament and gamble a couple of times at my pool hall I go to in Edgewater.

Snort! Hell, if ESPN can say Texas Hold'em is a Sport, then pool sure as hell ought to be . . ! And they're the last word because they are the ones who create the Sports . . and promote them . .
Or, izzat, "Turn them into a Circus?"
But then who knows as much as dipshit here, Because I'm sure ESPN calls him before they do or say anything . . which indicates some sort of skill, I'm sure . .

I was always under the assumption that athletes played sports and league shooters walking around a pool table with a beer in one hand and a cigarette(before ban) in the other hand doesn't quite qualify as an athlete to me. If it does for you and ESPN, so be it. Some don't set their standards as high as others for athletes. Now go practice your cribbage game so I can see you on ESPN for the old and obnoxious and bring me another sandwich on your way back.

It's a physical challenge between you and your opponent, Unlike chess it is more physical than you think. In the higher levels of competition you do have to be in good shape both mentally and physically

In good physical shape? I've seen out of shape gamblers go at it for over 24 hrs.
The mental part I agree with.
That picture of Francisco Bustamante you posted is about as far as one can get from the typical league pool that is held in a bar, to promote beer sells. Bustamante is a world class shooter and not the C-A sticks that shoot in most leagues. Any league caters more to the beginners and move them quickly through the bottom ranks because there is always more beginners and more money to be gained for them.

Below is a picture that shows what the typical league shooter looks like.
Bill Skinner(AAA) and Mark Haddad(low pro) I have seen shoot before. Does it look like Skinner is in good physical shape to you.
A league shooter posting a picture of Bustamante is like the weekend warrior of golf posting a picture of Tiger Woods for comparison.

I've come to realize that my initial post was misplaced, I just wanted the accomplishments of pueblo pool players not be ignored and to be represented somehow in the Chieftain. It is truly not considered a sport but still deserved some kind of recognition.
Thank you

feedbox . .
Back a while, the paper used to post the Bowling and Pool League Results weekly in the Sports pages, usually the box scores . . But it got to where the league secretaries couldn't post them to the Paper when they were supposed to, as well as about that time there was more than a Jillion Bowling leagues and about 50 Pool leagues, three competing with each other, as rivals, and then the dart leagues wanted scores posted too . .
You see where this went . .
Plus, if it ain't round and gets hit with a stick, paddle or oar, it doesn't find it's way into the paper . . That fat F--k, Dave Socier set that standard 35 years ago . . pretty good for a guy who thought Spaghetti was an Olympic Sport . . .
A good example is the PBR, who have picked Pueblo as it's hometown, and can't buy coverage in this paper . . Probably the only way PBR would be mentioned is to have the building burn down . . they always cover fires . .
As far as being misplaced, yeah probably, but you got more attention here than you'll get with any of the editors . . Especially the Sports Dept . .

I have read all your BS posts running your mouth about Pueblo players.. Who do you think you are to have ANY room to speak upon some of the BEST players in COLORADO?!?! If you would just come out of your "OLD SWEATER" and step up your game instead of your mouth, WE WOULD ALL SEE who really honestly is the best players around!!!
You need to take out your old dusty house cue and and put your money on the table!
I guarantee that over 3/4 of the players down here in Pueblo would gamble with any of the players in Denver or anywhere the money is! OH WAIT most of them already have! We're not scared to step up! Maybe you should come down and prove yourself to us?
OH and you posting about Shane Van Boening~ Um he already gambled with the top players here in Pueblo and that was before he was a world champion! Guess even the pros know where to go for some action! On that note, I would like to tell you that I am PROUD of you for being able to see Shane play in person! MOST PLAYERS HAVE!!!
Bottom line...don't run your mouth if you can't back your talk! :)

For one thing I didn't bad mouth Pueblo Pool Players or never would.
As far as Shane Van Boening go's his Colorado connection is Mike Hellmer a low pro who runs a pool hall in Ft Collins and use to date Shane's Mom who was/is also a good ladies shooter.
For two thing.....if you have spent any time in a real pool hall where they gamble you should know what the handle "Old Sweater" or just "Sweater" meant...""We just sit at the rail sweating the action. I side bet once in awhile so I guess I'm not a true sweater since you can get in my pocket. I just like to watch the players and don't shoot pool.
Just watched Melissa Little<Colorado's top Pro Women.....win Sundays 9-Ball tournament against some of the Metro's top men players including Bill Skinner who spanked Helena Thornfelt in a $700 set when she was ranked #3 in the womens 9-ball rankings.
I've seen
Davy Gomez> One of Colorados best bar box players and my fav on a bar box.
Danny Medina.....Colorado's best from Brighton
Shane Van Boening......last years 9 ball US Open Champ
Santos from the Philippines
Billy Taylor aka peaches who has beat the world best in one pocket
James Walden.....one of the best gamblers of the US from OK City
Matlock......said to be the best in the world on a bar box with the mud ball
Mellisa Little/Colo Pro
Laura Smith/Colo Pro
Megan Smith/Colo Pro> just moved back to Penn
Bonnie Plowman>Just took a top pay in Las Vegas pool leagues
Caela Hanley>same as above last year and #2 this year(both low pro or AAA in womens events)
And thanks to are women Pro's they have brought in these ladys Pro's for promotion/tourneys/gambling
Monica Webb
Helena Thornfelt
Ga Young Kim
Vivian Villareal
Mellisa brought in Jennifer Lee but I missed seeing her.
I have seen all the above in tourneys or gamble at the TableSteaks near Sloans Lake that just shut down.
I will be seeing some of Pueblo's best Oct 1st-5th at the TableSteaks South(downtown Englewood one block west of Broadway On Floyd) at the Davy Gomez Tourney......I believe even the Pro's are allowed at this bar box tourney.
Which Pro's have you seen gamble in Pueblo? Truthfully I have only seen one player from Pueblo(my hometown) come up to gamble(one pocket and bar box 9) first name was Eddie if I remember right.
Hank Rivera from Pueblo(main st cigar store shooter) now runs the Paradise Pool Hall at 38th and Sheridan(SW Corner) if you're ever up this way......
