Be careful what you wish for...

Religion sues Utah town to display '7 Aphorisms'

By The Associated Press
08.05.05

SALT LAKE CITY — The Summum religion has sued the city of Pleasant Grove for the right to display the other set of laws they say Moses brought down the mountain.

The city has refused to allow the Salt Lake City-based religion to erect a monument enumerating the Seven Aphorisms, principles they say underlie creation and nature, with a public memorial that includes the Ten Commandments....

..."The rights of plaintiff Summum are violated when the defendants give preference and endorsement to one particular set of religious beliefs by allowing the Ten Commandments monument to remain in a public park or in a forum within the public park supported by taxpayers and disallow a similar display of the religious tenets of Summum," the lawsuit says.

The city of Pleasant Grove didn't immediately return phone calls seeking comment....

Next thing you know someone will be arguing about which version of the 10 Commandments to display - Catholic, Protestant, Cecille B. DeMille, or Torah.

What is it with Utah and "alternative" religions? First the Mormon religion, now this. I know what some of you are probably thinking, who labels which religions are mainstream and which are alternative. In my universe, I guess I do. Must be something in that Utah water....

>snip<I know what some of you are probably thinking, who labels which religions are mainstream and which are alternative.>snip<Personally, I'm still struggling with the definitions of "mainstream" and "alternative". :) After that, I hope to move on to the differences between "religion", "cult", and "neurological disorder".

I have trouble with those definitions, myself. If you are able to gain any insight, I would hope you would share with the rest of us.....

Hmmm, lessee . . in order, Religion, mainstream, alternative, cult, Nutcase . . . Or would that be "neurological disorder"?

Nutcase is easier, desn't require certification . . . . has larger parameters . . might even start right behind "Religion" sometimes . . . 'specially in Utah and California . . .

But I've been known to be wrong . . . .
