An article in this morning's paper prompted this missive. And "No Fisking" . . . **
"The Issue: Legislators estimate at least half of the major bills moving through the Colorado legislature this year were written by lobbyists and poitical consultants on behalf of corporations, state agencies or big constituencies like organized labor.
Given reason: experts say many lawmakers lack paid staff and term limits have trimmed the ranks of imformed legislators familaaar with complicated issues, from school finance to tax law."
Quoted from "header" of article published in the Pueblo Chieftain, 3/26/05
So we have been lead to believe our represenatives represented us until they needed Campaign Finance . . to quote Gomer Pyle . . "S'prise!, s'prise! . . they don't even wait that long.
"Hello Aquila? we need a new Price Control on Electricity Rates, would you care to write one up?"
So now we know . . or do we?
**I'll explain that one later.

That doesn't scare me as much as what the big wig companies are doing. It wasn't long ago that Qwest was in trouble. Then they pulled things together--or so it seemed. Now we're learning that they have been conducting illegal business. And then you have Worldcom who got caught doing the exact same thing. In fact if you look at the dates you can almost trace who spoke to who and when. It makes you wonder how Kmart came out of the mud so fast and is now able to buy Sears. Anyhow term limits are good because we can't have bad people stay in strong positions forever. Its unfortunate that this prevents the good people from remaining long enough to really help us but that's how it goes. The lesser of two evils.
As for companies writing laws. Well chech out the FDA. They are almost completely funded by the pharmacuticals that are given clearance for use in this country such as Vioxx. That's scary! Maybe we just started doing what the big boys have been doing this whole time.

I'm not sure you understand what was posted . . It states that the Big Corporations, Special Interest groups and Lobbyists for other groups, Unions, etc . . ARE CURRENTLY writing the legislation our lawmakers often "Rubberstamp" into law . .
and apparently they have been doing this for quite some time.
This actually would seem to me to be a large "Conflict of Interest" on the behalf of our lawmakers . . .

Fisking. The art of leftist reporters getting the crap beat out of them by Islamofascists they care so dearly for? As in Robert Fisk?

Dunno, it's a term I picked up on another forum. It is said to mean much the same as "Parsing" or taking a sentence, or passage out of context and either analyzing it or questioning it . . in other words . . E.G. :

Does that mean YOU have something against the Reporters who tell the story the way it happened or that they don't align themselves with your right wing fundamentalist war mongering upon the rest of the world?
Now that's "Fisking"
Purty stoopid, huh? It's actually bad manners and in debate, it'll get you disqualified as a contestant . . . Normally (I'm actually not . . normal, that is) I prefer the correspondent reply to the WHOLE statement when replying . . Then I don't have to go back and see where I started, or for that matter, where somebody else started, to figure out what the hell we were talking about . . My old mind is quite like the Windows Operating System . . the memory ain't too good!

Just guessing. I actually like my guess better though, a sort of shorter version of "What's the frequency, Kenneth?"

I just like the word . . got kind of a, mmmm, shady? . . off color? . . . should I say connotation . . Just sounds "Nastier" than "parsing" . . Heh,heh . . . .
S'pose I ought go get the whole definition . . then we could chuckle together . . .
